It always amuses me the way Christian churches co-0pt heathen traditions like May Day, anything to get them in. Though there are others who get very puritanical and strict about it.
Do you know the Padstow Spring song? There is a procession around the village with hobby horse and all. I am told a Roman writer mentioned it as being an old tradition before they came, now that's old for an oral tradition.
