I didn't plan on removing the old dead plants at all, tbh. Do the seeds do well in the frozen dirt over winter? If you allow them to go to seed before removing the old plants in fall they will drop loads of seed and next spring you will have tons of baby marigold plants coming up. Then, all you need do is remove those that are crowded, leaving the number of plants you want and you'll have a whole new bed full of Marigolds next year.
You would need to remove the old plants and you can compost them. The seeds will survive over winter.I didn't plan on removing the old dead plants at all, tbh. Do the seeds do well in the frozen dirt over winter?
Based on my keeping of seeds in the freezer over winter, I'd say the freezing doesn't matter even though they're not native to cold climates. The seeds that I planted this year were from 2011 plants, so they've been frozen quite a while.I didn't plan on removing the old dead plants at all, tbh. Yes I freeze all my seeds and they have done well.Based on my keeping of seeds in the freezer over winter, I'd say the freezing doesn't matter even though they're not native to cold climates. The seeds that I planted this year were from 2011 plants, so they've been frozen quite a while.
Many plants show up in spring from fallen seeds. (I do remove the plants for composting before winter.)
