I have a thing for Marigolds. Little but showy.

I have one Big Planter with nothing but Marigolds getting ready to Bloom. I guess I'm easy, so excited!

Well the other day had to redo my planter. They were very Root Bound.

Put New Soil in about 2 inch tall plants. Good for rest of Summer.

Put couple rows of Marigolds in the garden couple days they Germinated. Some I planted before that up growing big time.

Like Petunias but I think Marigolds got them beat.

Got a Bag of Seed.

I let mine go to seed in late fall then, come spring, I just relocate the new plants. Mine pop up everywhere right through 2 inches of mulch.

I don't bother planting any, they plant themselves for me. Same with Zinnias and morning glories: they all reseed themselves.

I have this pink ruffle morning glory and it is so cute. Looks like little roses growing on a vine. They're really easy to grow. You just need a chain link fence or trellis to let them twine on.

To keep the rabbits away from the vegetables & herbs, one year I planted marigold in a line at the front of each garden that had tomato, pepper and herb plants. The vegetable and herb plants did very well co-existing with the marigolds.

Everyone was happy. Including the rabbits...

One morning when I went outside just before dawn, I saw rabbits lined up shoulder-to-shoulder at each garden munching away at the marigolds. So much for rabbit repellent!

The best rabbit repellent is cats, unless you have one like the one I used to have. 😖😖😖
She would catch baby rabbits and carry them home, unscathed, by the nap of the neck.
I'd hear a rabbit screaming it's little head off, there, in my cat's mouth, then she'd carry it inside, thru the cat door and deposit it in her bed on the back porch !! 😆

Marigolds didn't deter her either.

Is this true(ish)? This season I created an entire flower garden that I filled just with marigold seedlings (52 I think). They have THRIVED and form an entire wall on one side of my garden. Am I to understand that this may just naturally happen again next year?

If you allow them to go to seed before removing the old plants in fall they will drop loads of seed and next spring you will have tons of baby marigold plants coming up. Then, all you need do is remove those that are crowded, leaving the number of plants you want and you'll have a whole new bed full of Marigolds next year.
