I made a float water level gauge for my 275 gallon rain water storage tank. i bought the float from home depot cost around $3.50. I am using a fiberglass flag pole from a bicycle. This water level gauge should be trouble free.

Having a tank for rain water is a good idea. This float I guess is to see that water does not overflow?

the 275 gallon tank is wrapped in black plastic and you can't see how much water is in it. when the tank is full that black rod with yellow tip will be at it's highest point, when the rod goes down the water is getting lower. the water will not over flow but will back flow out the 4" black drainage pipe when the tank is full. the water level gauge is using the vent tube seems to be working good.
