I had a genius of an idea... make mini green houses from plant boxes.
I thought many people would have had the same idea... when I looked on youtube...
The only people I see are ones that use very very thin plastic sheeting and don't exactly do a good job of making it look good. :)

My idea was to erect a slightly bigger box frame + have all sides be plastic perspex.
Would this be a bad idea?
Would the plastic melt in the sun? I'm sure it has a high temperature threshold.

If the idea is OK... what other considerations should I have?
Like ventilation?

Silly question: what am I trying to protect against - what bugs? slugs, caterpillars? I was thinking, if I make holes, then these blighters will get in!

Thanks.

You can line the ground with shingles. Let's put it this way, when there are seedlings or plants, blighters will get in! Some people use mesh to cover their plants during critical times. Some even cage their cherries.

Perhaps concentrate your effort on your favorite plants first and have a look on youtube to see how others cope with invaders.. Apart from perspex, you can get polycarbonate materials or even build your own greenhouse.

It sounds like you are trying to build a cold frame of sorts. For ventilation these usually have a lid (which is on a slant) that can be propped open when needed. Of course that kind of eliminates your protection from bugs. It sounds like you are just trying to protect against the bugs and not trying to raise the temperature. If that is the case why don't you cover the box with insect screen like is used in greenhouses?
