So I've had a garden for 3 years now, so I'm still learning. But I've built a compost bin with recycled pallets from work, and lined it with chicken wire to keep out the crickets.

1) A layer of cardboard to suffocate the weeds.

2) Old dead wood the fallen from the neighbors tree.

3) A various mix of greens, but mostly cabbage leaves.

4) Small branches of kindling I've found about.

5) Dirt from the garden, that's also contained kitchen as scraps. All greens.

6) Leaf litter, and some straw that's starting to break down.

I've just wanted to get an opinion from someone else's perspective, and weather or not you'd think this would be effective. And if not, what can I do to correct this.

Composting significantly different sized materials can be a problem. I'm thinking of wood and cabbage leaves for example.

It will slow the process IMO and be difficult to turn it.

There's leaves, and a couple whole cabbages that's been smashed up and cut, and various different sized branches, the biggest being on the bottom. So a correction would be to just process them into smaller pieces from now on?
