The image does look like Garlic Snail (Oxychilus alliarius). In California, this small pulmonate snail is an introduced species from Europe. It lives in my garden in low numbers. The common name refers to it releasing a garlic-like odor when disturbed. I haven't noticed that, but I then I don't disturb them very often.
