Hydroponics?

I was just wondering is hydroponics is something really difficult and/or expensive to get into. I don't know that much about it, but before I hit google for some research--what are your guys' thoughts on it?

I'd happily give it a go, its only growing plants in a bit of Rockwool, can't be that hard.

If you google it, you'll mainly get stuff about growing cannabis though.

Oh wow, I wouldn't be doing it for the cannabis, hah, but I mentioned to my boyfriend that I'd like for us to do some indoor growing this winter (I've already ordered some seeds for pineberries and green zebra tomatoes, more in the future hopefully, and I'm still considering those mushrooms!) and he said something about hydroponics and I was a bit intrigued. To Google!
