Chard has been a favourite vegetable of mine for some time and I am going to try using containers for the first time this year. I was inspired to try it by Meadowlark's thread about using Hügelkultur in containers, basically filling the bottom of the container with wood. The theory is that the wood keeps the moisture levels constant and also supplies nutrients as it rots. Meadowlark says that experimenting he has had up to two and a half times as much produce of foliage crops per inch sown compared with simply planting in the garden, he is proceeding with experimenting with other crops. I desire to garden and specifically raise vegetables for the duration of my life. I recognize that someday I will not be able to do that in my current large garden. Hence, this experiment to determine the feasibility of Hugelkulture in containers. Two control plants and two hugelkulture plants...
