The gaura plant, also called wandflower or bee blossom, originally native to East Texas is a low-maintenance, long-blooming native perennial with lance-like foliage. Wiry flower stems feature many 1-inch four-petalled pink flowers looking like butterflies on long stems.

My first attempt at growing these perennials in my new butterfly garden. The thing that really sold me on these, in addition to being native to East Texas, is that they tolerate extreme heat and sun as well as cold temperatures down to minus 20°F.

They are just beginning to bloom here...

It was informative to learn about the Wandflower (Gaura). I especially like the color of the flower.

Thanks @LouisFerdinand for the comment.

Yes, I wonder why this native plant isn't much more widely used in home gardens. It is definitely a fixture in my perennial pollinator garden. Practically maintenance free and lovely blooms to boot.
