I tried planting garlic. After a month, I tried harvesting it already because the sprout is already big and starting to dry. Sadly, when I dug it up, I found no garlic. If I am not mistaken, I can harvest garlic after a month or so. Well, based on the result of what I did, it should take a long time. How long does it take for garlic to grow?

You plant garlic in the fall and harvest it the following summer, about 8 months. Garlic does not like to be wet only slightly moist. If too wet it will rot in the ground

So sorry to hear about your garlic, but as Chuck said you harvested i a few months ahead of time. Better luck next time, I'm sure with Chucks tips you will make it.

I hope I am succesful. I just got my order of garlic. I'm gonna try two varieties: the moroccan-creole and Rico's German hardy.

Plenty of time to try again.
I'm putting my seed garlic in the fridge today, and planting it in two-three weeks when I get back from Scotland.

You don't need to refrigerate garlic unless you plan to store it for a month or more before planting. Since you are in Texas, you can plant your garlic in mid-October, so no need to refrigerate.

Garlic naturally contains chemicals which inhibit growth.
These chemicals break down at low temperatures, and perform the function of giving garlic help to know that there has been a winter before they sprout.
This process is called "vernalisation".
Last year, we had a very mild winter, & hardly anyone had garlic bigger than marbles.
I had vernalised mine, by putting it in the fridge for a couple of weeks, and reaped the rewards last June.

I have always put mine in the fridge but didn't know why. I was always just told to years and years ago.
