Dog deterrent plants.

I have trouble keeping dogs off my front garden which does not have a boundary wall. Dog walkers sometimes guide their dogs on to to my lawn or allow them to dig into the lawn edge borders at the pavement. I had read that dogs do not like the smell of both lavender and rosemary plants so I have planted both at the pavement edge of my garden only to find that the plants are surrounded by dog prints and damage caused by them. Can anyone offer an alternative solution please?

Mint is something dogs find off-putting. But, it spreads quickly.
