I’m looking for websites to help stock up on pollinator and butterfly seeds as I want to do something with my family for the environment but also I have a Girl Scout troop of 11 girls and want to do something within our community and have some to distribute to the girls to create their own gardens for our butterflies and bees !
Thank you in advance !!

I don't have any free seed sources handy, but if at some point you decide to buy some seed, I do recommend Prairie Moon Nursery. They sell native plant species. All the beneficial ones like milkweeds, coneflowers, wild bergamot, joe pye weed, meadow blazing star, and more. And you can buy either individual seed packets or various seed mixes. Seed mixes are the way to go if you want to plant a pollinator patch that's bigger than 10' x 10', and most mixes start out with enough seed for 500 sq. ft. Most native seeds will need to be sown in early to mid winter in order to grow in spring.

Whatever you end up doing, good luck! I started helping pollinators and wildlife in general in 2014 and it's been super rewarding!

Hello. I want to caution you to make certain that any seeds you may get (or buy) will thrive in your particular plant zone.

When I first started planting for butterflies and bees, I was quite young and never realized that many of the beautiful flowering plants I grew (all from seed) weren't right for my zone. Such plants may do okay for a while, but then . . . It was all too disheartening.

Best of luck in your endeavor and I greatly admire you for teaching young people to garden.
