Do You Have To Dig Them Up

Do you have to dig Canna Roots up it the Fall?

The reason I'm asking is I'm wanting to plant Hostas around them.

Also do you have to dig up Elephant Ear.

Plus found a Banana Tree good to -20, I'm in Zone 6. Do I want to fool with it?

I don't dig up my cannas or elephant ears, but it's not as cold here as it is where you are.

It has actually been warm though Winter like maybe 0F for couple days but I hate to take the chance.
