Diagnose my cuke problem?

Hi there -

I'm growing pickle bush cukes in large whisky barrel containers. They appeared to be doing fine for awhile but I've noticed yellowing/browning on the leaf edges - more prominent on the lower leaves, but it definitely seems to be happening across the plant as the upper leaves mature. Happened last year too - cucumbers are becoming my nemesis plant.

I monitor moisture with a gauge and am pretty stingy with watering. Using Master Garden potting mix.

Any ideas?

Thanks

how large are the containers? You need at least a 2 gallon or you will have watering issues and it looks as if that is the problem.

Also, kudos for being thrifty with water, but a little water frequently can be a problem. Very few plants like being in consistently moist soil. Cukes need about an inch of water per week (maybe more in containers) and it's ok to let them dry out even to the point of wilting, then give them a really good soak.

Thanks - I'll try letting them dry out and stick to deep watering infrequently. The barrels hold about 2.5 cubic feet, so I'm guessing the soil is just too moist.
