Is there any reason my compost bin should NOT be up on my deck and not on the ground. I guess it has just been a matter of convenience for me at this point. What are the immediate benefit of moving it ground level?

If you compost is in a bin or container of some kind it makes no difference where you locate it

It doesn't make any difference.
I can't keep my compost bin on the ground, because my dog would start stealing food scraps. I feed him three times a day, but he is always hungry;)

Contact with the soil allows its bacteria to colonise your compost, speeding up the process, and giving better results.
If you keep your bin off the ground, it will rot, not compost.
