Hi,

Growing cabbage for 1st time. I am reading multiple "facts" online regarding temps.

at what temp can you transpant to outside? I am reading soil temp has to be 60 degrees but also that cabbage will survive into the teens.

Thank you in advance

I put mine out around the first of April. That is probably mid 50's avg soil temps but it can still freeze or frost on them.

An already established cabbage (such as one grown for late Fall harvest) can survive low temps better than one that's just been transplanted. I wouldn't worry about a light frost but a good hard freeze may take out a transplant. I've had established cabbage make it through the low 20's but the temp just dipped down and it warmed back up to above freezing so that makes a difference too as to it being 20's for a day or two.

Cabbage definitely prefers cool over hot. I just transplanted some in mid-Jan. and its going great guns even with several frosts/freezes. I've had mature plants go through as low as 15 deg. F and do just fine but an immature transplant probably only good for mid 20's I'd guess.
If planting in a container as I do for most of mine, it is very easy to cover young transplants if needed.

Cabbage doesn't like above 80 deg. so the risk for me at least is waiting too long not transplanting too soon.
