Butting Dahlias

Hi all,
I'm noticing that some of our Dahlias are displaying an rather unhealthy looking flower bud. Does any of you have an explanation as to what the cause of this is and how do I fix it.

Not sure what pests you have out there but something is eating it.

Whenever I've grown dahlias, I have had a problem with earwigs. Maybe that is your problem too. Maybe you could make a trap and see if you catch some.

Perhaps I should simply cut this guy in half and see if the creature is still residing in it.
