Butterfly Bush sprawled out.

Hey I have a question about my butterfly Bush. I will add a picture if I can. At the center root base there is nothing the stems branches put flat and then after about 3-4 inches from the center curved upward. Any idea what happening?

A few years ago these were Sedum telephium, now they are Hylotelephium telephium.
Anyway this seems to be fairly typical as they get older. In spring you can easily split them up and this "rejuvenates" them.
Interestingly "Butterfly bush" in the UK is often used for Buddlejas B davidii in particular.
No wonder I dislike common names.
