I was talking to a friend about the problem we had a couple years ago when we had a whole bunch of seedling come up only to be suddenly gone one day. He mentioned using bug netting to prevent earwigs from getting in. It sounds easy to use bug netting on a pot where you can tie it around the rim, but what about in the ground? Is this a tool only for pots?

Geotextiles: Insect Netting. You cover the ground around the plants and it helps to keep bugs off the plant. Here is a link to the article that talks about it.

Bug Netting

I hear it is a bit on the pricey side but it could save your plants.

Oh dear, maybe I will have to try something else then. I don't exactly have money right now.

I remember when the cicadas where rumored to come around. I was told to bug net my plants because they were going to be destroyed. I bug netted all my plants and some trees I planted. I was ready. Wouldn't you know that the cicadas never came. I least I have netting for when they do arrive.
