Mainly for humidity and temperature control for young seedlings. What are Black Tray Domes for?

So tempting to say "They are black". I have never seen such a thing, so I am only guessing, but maybe during the germination stage the black will absorb heat, and convert light to heat, so a sort of primitive heated propagator? You would need to take it off for light as soon as you got germination. How are they different than clear ones?

I researched these domes. They are for germinating seeds and as a way to ensure proper light times in a greenhouse. For most gardeners the length of time for seedlings to be in light is determined by a light switch, not removing a lid and not only this but seedlings will be too tall for the lid in a very short period of time. The only positive thing I can see by using this product is moisture control for seed germination which one can achieve with Saran Wrap. Temps are easily regulated by heat mats of which one would need in any case. IMO this is just another scam for gardeners to spend their money on.Got them,
SUNPACK®'s heavy-duty blackout humidity dome is perfect for adjusting the growing conditions for your seedlings. The domes help conserve watering while providing an appropriate blackout period. This heavy-duty plastic 7" Vented Humidity Dome for 1020 Trays also features a control dial to help regulate moisture and temperature for your germinating seeds and its heavy-duty plastic construction will endure through many growing cycles.
I have Clear ones that work just fine.I researched these domes. They are for germinating seeds and as a way to ensure proper light times in a greenhouse. I do that on purpose when watering seedlings. Get them saturated and then let the seedlings drain. I only water seeds at time of planting them and then cover the tray with Saran Wrap. Keep the seeds warm and covered with Saran Wrap and you won't have to water the seeds again until they germinate.I have Clear ones that work just fine.
I think I have been messing up though put tray with holes in a tray with water. Which is giving them too much water.

I suppose it would work if the plants only grew to 3-6 inches tall.Ok. So I’ve not seen black domes before- plenty of covers and domes for seed trays etc for propagating humidity and temperature etc as mentioned above
however I have an idea (could be I’ve gone off in completely the wrong direction).
but forcing some plants to flower at a specific time. Many plants flower in relation to the amount of sunlight and darkness they get. Poinsettias is a good example. Nurseries control the level of light and dark- using blackouts to insure the wonderful red leaves (bracts ) when sold at Christmas
perhaps these black domes are for similar small scale at home.?
LOL. Right you are Chuck, right you are.I suppose it would work if the plants only grew to 3-6 inches tall.
I hear your son's voice, "Dad, did you need them any time in the last 40 years, why would you now?"Ok do i really need them?
