I planted two flats of basil that took forever to germinate. Now that we have some constant hot weather its finally growing. I had planted two rows with the intent of drying it. One row is growing like wildfire, with plants about 6" apart, they're about 3ft tall and dark green. The other row, 3ft over, popped up at the same time, and is growing completely different. They all came from the same pack of seeds. I also planted about 30 plants in giant pots up by the house for fresh leaves.
That's all growing huge as well.
The lighter green row however shot up to about a foot tall and went strait to seed? The leaves are smaller, and smell and taste the same but its completely different in how its growing. Both rows got the same soil, same fertilizer, same amount of of light, etc.
I thought at first maybe there were two types of seed in that pack but what are the chances that 30 of one type ended up in totally separate rows when they were all started in a 20" starter tray together from the same package.
At this point I guess if it matures to seeds, it'll just be next years seed source but since those plants have such small leaves, maybe I don't want those seeds?
