Bare root roses with cane turning black

Hi,

I planted my bare root roses about 2 months back. I noticed that the cane is turning black. The leaves are all purple in color. I am not sure what to make out of it. Does it mean that the plant is infected with fungus ?

I think you do have a nasty case of sooty mould there and am going to give a link to the RHS advice on the subject.... afraid I'm not an expert on this....

Welcome David2. Roses are best grown in bare soil to cut down the risk of disease. May I suggest you clear the bark and any other debris that is laying around the base of the rose.
