What's best to buy as I want to buy a Redbud Forest Pansy as I saw these in bloom when I was on holiday.

Thomson and Morgan have them bare rooted.

Crocus have them in pots.

Cercis Canadensis are one of my favorite trees too scotkat - not only because of " Forest Pansy's " beautiful blossoms but because of the striking reddish purple foliage - which varies in intensity throughout the year - just love it :)

As to whether to choose bare-rooted tree or one in a pot - as I've heard that some Redbuds including " Forest Pansy " can experience transplant shock when planted as a bare-rooted tree and is more likely to be a problem when planted at this time of year - rather than when planted in the autumn - I would be inclined to go for one in a pot.
