Avocado trees...

Has anyone had any luck growing avocados in the Las Vegas area? We're hoping to be moving there in the next several months and I would love to have an avocado tree. I've done some research and I know they would need to be protected from wind and cold until they're established, but was hoping for some first hand accounts.

I don't live in Las Vegas, so forgive me for replying, but I might have an answer for you... But before I go that far, how cold does it get there during the winter months?

It can get quite cold. Mid-20s for brief periods of time, but usually high 30s or so.

Oh! You use the F scale. We use metric ONLY I don't know imperial.. How close to freezing is that?

Sometimes below freezing. Probably between -5 and 5 C is the coldest it gets.

You can grow avocado trees in cold climates. It's whether they fruit or not. There are a cold climate varieties, one is called Bacon. You may be successful with this one. It can handle minus 8 for a short period.
