Depending on where you are located the sapling is large enough and has a large enough root system to go into the ground. But if it is too cool or too windy it would be best to put into a large pot. And don't forget that it will take about 10 years for it to fruit.
I would start with a one gallon pot so you can better manage your water volume. A very large container can cause root rot because the soil doesn't have enough time to dry out enough.
