Thought to myself, 'an allotment will help with my mental health' - but now I find myself a little clueless on where to start with mine haha - SOS

I've done some Googling and these seemed helpful but, is the advice in these good? Are they missing something obvious?

On the first reference rule #2 recommends planting grass walkways...disagree way too much work and maintenance required, just use mulch and compost instead and get weed control while soil building.

The advice on crop rotation and cover cropping is generally good. The importance of starting your own compost pile(s) can not be overstated.

My number 1 advice is always to plant what you enjoy eating as the rewards are greatest.

I'm sure Gardeners' World has a wealth of knowledge. We often get some good ideas from visiting a well laid out veg garden, such as National Trust or a local council garden. You can then see at first hand how they have mulched the plot, laid out the paths and made netting supports and so on. These places are usually free to visit the garden - although tea and cake might have to be bought or take a picnic! The RHS has many advice videos

On the other hand, we planted some Globe Artichokes on the plot but decided we didn't like eating them. If they are left to grow on they produce marvellous large purple flowers and a decorative seed head. So they weren't wasted and flower every year near a small pond we made.
