Air layering, water vs soil

Hello,

I'm new to gardening and am planning to propagate some plants by air layering.
I would like to hear opinions regarding the differences between air layering with water and with soil, especially in terms of time required for rooting and success rate.

Hello and welcome to GF.
I haven't done much air layering only put cuttings in soil or water, I think that it takes longer to air root instead of ordinary cuttings but you might be able to do it any time of year, perhaps someone knows more than me.

My idea with air layering is to be able to propagate larger cuttings. I have tons of Bougainvillea in my garden so that's what i'm experimenting with.

That's great you should have more success with air layering than ordinary cuttings. You can do it any time of the year but spring is best.
