What's eating my sunflower seedlings!?

I think it's gotten all of them now. These are seeds harvested from the flower my 5yo grew last year and sewed himself this year. Of course, or any good parent I replaced the seeds with Summer from a packet as we harvested to soon. But I don't want to have to keep doing that, he's going to catch on! So what's eating them? I have screened it to protect against future attacks, but still like to know what's causing it.

More than likely its birds. A caterpillar will just eat the leaves or a cutworm will just cut the leaves off. A rat or mouse could be doing it but unlikely. Insects don't eat the entire leaf. If squirrels they would eat the whole thing or leave digging marks and disturbed leaves. So that leaves birds. Probably your state bird the mockingbird.
