What is this?

My dad has a shrub that has a baby shrub nearby that he gave me. He doesn't remember what it's called and I need to know if the berries are poisonous to dogs so I know where to plant it. Thanks in advance for any help.


His is about 5 years old and about 4 feet high.

Callicarpa, possibly bodinieri or maybe americana. Not reported as being poisonous to dogs.

It depends on the weather where you are. How long to snow?

I'm in NJ, zone 7a. I'd say the snow usually starts late December, early January. It's not unheard of to start earlier or later though.

Plant it now. When it gets below 20 cover it with snow or mulch for insulation
