I am still waiting for the ground to thaw so I am working on my list of items that need doing to improve the outside layout of structures.

Today I plan to move my small greenhouse (6x4) to the right by 15". Yeah, a little more upfront plannng would have avoided this... I will need to empty it out, unscrew it from the deck and supporting rails and then shift and secure again. I also need to put up some new privacy panels that I made last week. And fix 1 solar panel bracket.

I made a cover for my sunoven and will be putting that out this week as sunny days are predicted and I will let the sun slow cook some chile con carne for me. (when I get it set up, I will take a pic)

How about you? What are your plans this week?

Not a huge amount for me this week :)

I've got to pull up some old roses (current cut right back, but the stumps are still there), replace some jointing compound that has crumbled (I'd use good ole mortar over this stuff any day!), plus I need to start cutting back some branches from lime trees before they start to grow leaves, or I'm going to double my work .

It's starting to get warmer here now, so it's not going to be long before it's full steam ahead!

Things have finally dried out to the point that we can till and plant the vegetable gardens. This week the onion sets, potatoes go in. Carrot, lettuce, spinach, and pea seeds will get planted. In between I'll pull weeds in the flower beds. Fun week ahead!

That was too easy... done that stuff and also mounted (no Zigs not that kind of mounting..) another solar panel which will now be the one and only that powers the pump and ceiling fan.

Also put up the rest of my privacy screening so I don't have to look at the hillbillies next door when standing at the sink in my kitchen.

Can you tell I am playing hookey from work....:)

Now going down to check my to do list and possibly start the next one!

Lori, do you have a picture of the privacy screening you put up? I will be redoing a small section of privacy fence next to my pool and am looking for ideas.
Aww, I like that kind of mounting :(
Kinda reminds me of playing sailor, prepare to be boarded!!!

You sure can tell spring is in the air! :) Gotta love it!

We had an unseasonably warm day today, 82 Fahrenheit, so I worked in the yard a bit, mostly clean up and planning, but it was so nice to feel the warmth of the sun on my back. I also took a short 10 mile bicycle ride on the Katy Trail.

Finished landscaping yesterday. Just waiting on my milkweed to arrive so I can plant it. After all the work, the inside of my house needs some serious attention :p

The neighbours put their bbq right behind these and that is directly opposite my kitchen window. So, this made it not nice inside or outside.

The "screens" are only 20" long and then the width in between the posts at my side deck. I used to have solid panels that left only a foot open at the top of the post and the same at the bottom. I really didn't care for them because they blocked so much sun and that is why I shortened them to just cover the area of offensive stares. There is fencing along the side of the yard so this took care of everything but the "head and shoulders".

These do the job and as soon as the plants I am going to be hanging and setting up on shelving fills in the space, I'll remove them. Then come fall I will simply clip them back in place.

They are made out of polyvinyl which is very thick and has a good scrim. It is the grade used to make banners and boat covers so extremely strong.

I didn't like it just plain like the last ones so I sliced the middle sections and wove strips into them, stitched in place and now they double as a relief valve in heavy winds. And today is a good test.

I still need to fiddle a little with a couple to tighten them up but not a bad solution to improving the view!

I don't have to see this stuff anymore and

can now flip them my unmanicured fingers without being seen!

Very creative Lori, it looks very nice, much better than the view you had before. Thanks for sharing the photos with us.

I am sorry that you have to deal with problematic neighbors, it's not any fun.

This morning I started digging in the garden. I only had a shovel and I'm not very strong, but I managed to dig a trench about 4ft x 1.5ft x8 inches deep. I found lots of worms, which made me happy, and grubs, which didn't :cautious:

My super-cool landlord told me he was gonna give me some of his organic soil (he sells trees, mulch, wood, and organic soil), but I didn't have it yet, so I mixed the soil from the trench with horticultural molasses (granules), Epsom salts, and lots of organic compost and, even though there wasn't enough for filling up the whole thing, I managed to plant my first tomato plant! :D

It's not one of the plants that I'm growing from my seeds, it's a plant I saw at the grocery store on my birthday and I had to have it because it was way bigger than mine were. It's an heirloom pineapple tomato. I've never had it before, we'll see if I like it. Tomorrow I'll try to plant my black Krims, which I grew from seed.

It's gone from Arctic blast winds complete with polar bears yesterday to balmy hazy spring sunshine today, what a difference :)

Got some weeding done in the fruit garden, found one of the Gooseberry bushes had layered itself so i've got a ready rooted new bush for the spare fruit garden :)
