Sour Blueberries

A guy my dad knows gives us blueberries every year. It used to be like, "Awesome!!! Wayne's harvest!!".. now it's more like, "oh no.. Wayne's harvest..."

They are SOUR as heck.. What causes this?...

As a new gardener... one that is failing, but learning what not to do, I am extremely interested in this answer.

Are they being harvested too early? I only pick mine in the heat of the afternoon as without full sunshine on the berries, they look ripe but can still be underripe.
