I want to add several mountain laurels to the shady spots in my yard. What kind of prep work do I need to do as a rule so that the soil is acidic enough for them to thrive?
I don't know about prepping to plant mountain laurel so I did a little research very good information, for acid-loving plants like mountain laurel, rhododendron and azalea, pine needles or wood chips make excellent mulches. Upon decomposing, both make the soil more acidic. I did not know rhododendron and azalea need an acidic soil we have some old bushes in the yard that have not been treated well for some time, I may just feed them this spring to help them produce more blooms.
