Potato Bugs

I didn't grow potatoes for 4-5 years in a row and neither did anyone else around me. My neighbor used to but he passed away years ago. I got to thinking where is the colorado potato beetle when there is no potato plants. I never saw a single one in that time frame. Just as soon as I started growing potatoes again "BAM" here they are again on schedule. Kinda strange. What do they live on when no potato plants are around?

Curious...but when I use my own seed potatoes no Colorado potato bugs but sometimes when I use store bought seed potatoes, I see Colorado potato bugs, not always but sometimes.

Anecdotal and certainly not scientific but it is curious to me.

This year has not been bad for potato bugs... yet. I've only seen two very small potato bugs and haven't found any eggs. Flea beetles were about to overpopulate the leaves but I took care of them.
