How is it planted? Which side is up?
If it is nutsedge why in the world would you want to propagate it? Everyone else in the entire world is trying to kill it. The pointed end shows roots in the picture, so I would presume that the pointed end is the end the roots come out of, but, in nature, there is no one available to place the nut/seed/tuber either up or down. I would just plant it about 1/2-3/4 inches deep, laying it on its side.

Good, much better than nutsedge but still planted the same way and about 3/4 inch deep.
