Welcome @osage_orange . I see no responses to your question.

I think perhaps folks are cautious about responding for fear of making a mistake...I know I am. Saying it was safe when it is not could get someone killed. It is very difficult to be certain from a photo. Maybe someone will venture a try.

Having said that, does your username imply anything re the "osage orange" aka bois d'arc tree?

I've been trying for some time now to get some started here. Failed using seeds more than once. Any tips?

Hard to say what it is without seeing the gills and skirt, even then its a guess for most people. Looks past its prime so probably wouldn't be very good even if it is edible. Lovely though as it is, in the photo.

Osage Orange.. best wood there is for making longbows IMO!

General rule of thumb: If you have to ask of any fungi or mushroom: "Is this edible?," then best to assume it is NOT.

We had a dude here locally (Santa Barbara, CA) who was considered (or considered himself, at least) an expert mushroomer. He picked some shrooms at a local Preserve, cooked them up ----- and died a terrible death. (2009)

As a general rule things that grow on wood are doubtful, things that grow in grass are edible. Unfortunately you often get wood buried under grass. If in any doubt don't is the best rule.

Thank you for responding. I am new on this gardening forum.
I asked my grandparents about the mushroom and they said none of the mushrooms you see in the wild are edible.
And about my username, i think osage orange seems like a very interesting fruit to me (not exactly a fruit) and i think that name is very intriguing.
