That is a safety feature required by law and it is done so you do not accidentally back over anything and cut it up .Most lawn mowers have it after the accidental injuries from backing up .

We have a John Deere, that we bought about 10 years ago. It was expensive at the time, but boy is it worth it. Other than a little maintenance, which my husband does, it hasn't cost us anything since (fingers crossed that nothing goes wrong now that I've said how reliable it is :sick:) I don't know about you all, but I really enjoy cutting the grass. I love being outside and enjoying nature. I love that it doesn't require any real thought, you just "exist". For that hour or so, I can tune out and not worry about anything. And at the end, you have a beautifully cut lawn to admire.
