A gentleman inquired if hanging baskets of flowers were used in the late 1800s?

Contrary to rumor, I wasn't around then but AI has an answer to everything:

Yes, hanging baskets were used in the late 1800s. They were popular in Victorian times and were used to display plants and flowers indoors and outdoors. Hanging baskets were made of various materials such as wicker, wire, and cast iron. They were often decorated with ribbons, bows, and flowers.

Wouldn't surprise me if they were used to shade windows from the sun to keep homes cooler.

Tapestries weren't hung on the wall for display but rather insulation.
