I love flowers, and I want that my balcony has a lot of good smell of them. Which kind of flowers you recommend? I live in Spain, and my city has a warm weather, there is sun during all day, but in my balcony there isn't "direct" sun.

I was thinking about plant "jazmines" (I'm not sure if they are called like that in english). Here they are very commons, but all your advices are welcomed ^__^

I wish I could help you. I love strong smelling flowers and tried to grow carnations with no success. Hope someone here can offer advice and I too will read it!

Honeysuckle, lavender, roses, sweet peas, lily of the valley, hyacinth, lilac, magnolia and gardenia are some of my favorite flowers for smell. I can see lily of the valley doing alright in shade, hyacinths can tolerate shade- the other plants prefer full sun.

Tuberoses smell amazing! They have a heady, heavy scent that fills an entire room from just a couple of blooms. Lilies are also very fragrant, as are gardenias and some roses. A favorite of mine is sweet olive, the smell is just amazing! I'd suggest you get flowers for different seasons so the fragrances don't overwhelm each other.

Jasmine and Honeysuckle are very fragrant and a favorite of mine. Gardena is also nice but a little over whelming for me, a hint of gardena is good for me but we all have different taste and what we like. I agree that you may want to just get a few to get started with or mix until you find what you like the most.

Some of the heirloom, or more wild roses are very, very fragrant. They have the potential to grow into very large bushes eventually, but they start small and can be trimmed. Unfortunately I do not know off the top of my head the names of the ones people I know have, but they have a more wild, less cultured look. Different than the roses sold in bouquets.

Geraniums are VERY fragrant, but only if you touch their leaves! I never noticed that the flowers had much scent, but the leaves certainly do!

I love the smell of growing things: one of the first thing I notice in the spring is that the SMELLS are back!

I had a jasmine plant at my old house. I loved the way it smelled. It just uplifted my mood whenever I caught a whiff.

Wow, thanks a lot for your replies!

I think I will start with jasmines, in my region, there are lots of them, the weather is always warm so I hope they can grow big and healthy ^__^

Lavender is very fragrant, but it literally makes me nauseous to smell it. There is something about the scent that does not go well with me. I really love the smell of lillies, and there are those bushes you can put out by your porch that smell amazing when they are in full bloom. I don't remember what they are called, but the bushes are thick and they grow big bushels of purple and baby blue flowers...I hope someone know what I am talking about and can provide the name.
