I have a small orchard of pear, peach and apple trees here in Sullivan County, NY.

We have frost well into May. Ground is mostly clay and acidic (blueberry bush heaven), and I supplement with chicken and horse manure, as well as fertilizer.

This year, all of the pear trees have lots of leaves with large brown area.

Below is a picture.

Is this late frost, infection (fungal or bacterial) or something else?

Thank you!

Hello, and welcome. I think this damage IS caused by frost, and it might affect this years fruit badly. We have also had mean frosts this spring, and I have seen similar damage - especially on a favourite Ceanothus tree.
It certainly doesn`t look like Fireblight or anything too terrible to me, nor does it seem to be sooty mould, so I think frost will be the culprit.
