Chipmunks eating Camellia buds?

Has anyone had a problem with chipmunks doing this? I've seen them climbing up in two large camellias and they seem to be eating the new buds. Don't want to start trapping them if no one has ever heard of this.

Deer get mine. Some newer varieties are less tasty, but my old world camellia must taste great. Use essential oils or other sprays that stink. Thyme and garlic are anti fungal among other benefits. Nobody nibbles onion much.
