This beautiful plant was brought to me by my husband from the wedding he attended to. We have zero idea what it was. Was it a cactus? I can't find it on Google or something. Please help..thanks!

It looks like a succulent to me:) We have many threads about them here, because they're gorgeous plants and everyone likes them:D They're easy to grow and, like cacti, they need very little watering and a lot of sun.
Your husband gave you a really lovely gift:)

ellaruis - I would agree with Claudine - and not only does your plant look more like a succulent than a cactus - it actually is a succulent :D

As your plant looks to me - very much like one of the many varieties of a succulent known as Ech
everia - which although a succulent - are not quite as hardy as most - in that they don't like drastic changes in terms of temperature or light and particularly light - which even though they require long hours of sunlight in order to thrive - don't do well in areas that experience intense sunlight.

So if you live in an area that experiences long hours of intense sunlight - your Echeveria would be best placed in an area with light afternoon shade - as although intense sunlight will not kill the plant - it will spoil its looks - because the foliage of any Echeveria is easily burnt by very strong intense sunlight.

It's definitely a succulent plant. I believe its common name is 'Hen and chicks' http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hen_and_chicks. I know people that grow them outside in Canada! I've personally never tried, although I do have a fondness for cactus and succulent plants. Don't over-water and you should be fine :) Also, if the plant hasn't been in full sun, then ease it into sun slowly. Many people aren't aware that cactus and succulent plants can burn very easily. Good luck!

@gata montes @claudine @MStory Thank you guys. I didn't even know what succulents are until you mention it. I am new to gardening and not so sure of what I'm doing lol :p.
@gata montes thank's for reminding about intense sun. It is summer now in the Philippines and it can really get hot like a dessert. Just put the plant where it won't be expose to too much sun ;)

I had a very nice collection of cactus plants that I had been growing for almost two decades. It took just one very humid summer to wipe out two-thirds of my plants. They are very hardy, but moisture is one thing that kills them super quick. One thing I've yet to be able to obtain with my cactus collection is to get them to bloom. They have some of the prettiest flowers. I met a botanist here in Canada, and she had a large cactus collection that she kept outdoors all year round! She said that was how she managed to get her cactus to bloom. I tried it once, but the cactus just turned to ice. :( I suspect she did something to prepare them for the harsh winter outdoors because clearly just leaving them out didn't work. Oh well, it's one of those trial and error situations that makes gardening so interesting!
