Avocado to soil necessary?

Hello everyone, my first avocado is doing well and it's growing and growing, this is already the third jar.

Is it absolutely necessary to move it to a soil pot? I am scared is not going to survive because of the shock.

if i leave it in water is it doomed anyway?
also, is it already too big to be moved?

The shock from transplant shouldn't kill the plant. The plant that is left in water will eventually run out of its stored food. But there's also this 'kratky hydroponic' technique that you might be interested in; you're basically half way there the only you need is some plant nutrient to add the water.
