In the UK quizzes are extremely popular and the TV is full of them. They're like game shows but they are questions on either specific topics or on general knowledge. They can also be reasonably easy straight forward questions or harder and more complicated ones. They are so popular over here that pubs regularly have quiz nights.
The questions aren't necessarily country specific so, as an example, in a geography round there would be questions about any part of the world. Similarly questions on history could be from anywhere. For instance, in a recent quiz in our village here in the UK one of the questions was "How many terms as President did Franklin D. Roosevelt serve?". 70% of the teams got the answer correct.
During quizzes it's a disqualifying event to use electronic means to obtain the answers. The whole idea is for you to use your brains.
This quiz is slightly different as it's about knowledge of the language - and specifically done in such a way as to make it harder to try and use Google to find the answer

All the clues are either cryptic, or refer to the meaning of the whole word, or refer to the meaning of the part of the word that does not contain ‘ant’ - or any combination of these.
Examples: A very large one = gi’ant’; An insect that prays (or preys) = m’ant’is.
1. One that can make a trunk call
2. A breathless one
3. One that stops itching
4. One that lives on the other side of the world
5. One that eliminates mucus
6. One that pulls things apart
7. A very cold one
8. A very clever one
9. One that lived before The Flood
10. One that won’t go to school
11. Widdershins
12. One that lights your way
13. One that attacks bacteria
14. One that takes no notice
15. One that can hold its drink
16. A very old one
17. One that bends easily
18. A bossy one
19. One that can’t go straight
20. A horny one
21. One that is running away to get married
22. A left-over one
23. One that you see at Christmas
24. A ghostly one
25. A glowing one
