Ten potted purple sweet potatoes were planted outdoors. Using potted plants as opposed to just slips gives a bit of a boost on growth. Zone 5 can use a longer season, since the cultivars are a warm season plant. I place the plants in an enclosure since rabbits eat them given an opportunity. The bed is heavily mulched to retain moisture.
