Which variety and where are you located?

And how big is a "good size" before they start going bad?

We are growing Black Beauties and those smaller white (Japanese?) ones. Recently started harvesting them at about 6"/baseball size. The white ones in particular seem to grow & ripen on the ground, which will lead to discoloration if not harvested soon enough, or cushioned with mulch or something.

Remember that ripe aubergines would be unpleasant with all those seeds formed, and take them as soon as you feel they are usable.
