I thought the following guide might be of some use to vegetable gardeners. Just click on gardening calendar and choose your hardiness zone.

They missed the boat on some key veggies for my zone but ok on some others.

For example, potatoes are one of my garden staples and they recommend planting May 1. That's at least 10 weeks late to start spuds here.

On onions, another staple of my garden, they recommend January planting date, but again that is very late for plants, sets and especially seeds which need to be started in Oct. and November here. Short day Onions not started then tend to bolt quickly in spring and never reach good sized bulbs.

They also missed the fall crop of peppers and beans which is often the best here.

The best guide one can find is a long-time successful gardener in your area...but failing that the online guides can help some.

Thanks.

Timing of the Fall cool crop vegetables is important here in East TN. Too early and broccoli & cabbage don't like the heat. Too late and it freezes on the plants before you get to harvest. I recorded what I did last Fall so I can adjust planting times next Fall.
