From a distance, it reminds me of a Monterey Cypress (Hesperocyparis macrocarpa) in the Cypress family (Cupressaceae), native to a remarkably small region of the California coast but widely planted in temperate coastal regions. If you could post a close-up photo of the leaves and female strobilus or cone, I should be able to confirm this.

Yes, lovely trees. They do well in the wind and salt air of coastal conditions.
