It took us a whole day to mow the lawn and we found so many weeds that have shot up and got out of hand. You cannot pull them all out but to place weed killer on them would mean that the grass would be effected, how do you get rid of weeds that have been growing in between the grass?

We pull the weeds by hand. When we have no time to do that, we get a hired hand for that chore. Those young kids on the block enjoy pulling up the weeds in exchange for snacks and some money. But we let the weeds grow first so it is easier to pull. And also, we use an icepick, that pointed metal like a stick that we use as lever in pulling the weeds easier.

Most lawns are not too big and weeds tend to be sparsely distributed. This suggests that the good old manual method of picking weeds individually is the only viable solution. Herbicides are not selective for weeds and beneficial insects. A good strategy is eliminating the weeds when they are young before they have a chance to flower and produce seeds.

I'm afraid the best and the safest solution is to pull them by hand. Unfortunately, it's hard work. But are you sure you want to get rid of them? Personally, I love weedy lawns. In my opinion weeds look pretty:)

When they become too unwieldy, flowering weeds are just labeled "wildflowers" and we act like we actually planted them. :D

We tend to obsess over weeds in the Spring and even treat them but many of them actually die on their own once the heat hits.

I really think it is the worst part of the gardening, weeds! I love doing my garden and the weeds are the part I really cant take doing because it is so difficult to get them out and I could spend more time working with planting my other things.

I don't worry about weeds on my lawn either. I don't care what they are, they can be very pretty and besides that, a plain green lawn is boring anyway. I'd rather look at a field of fluffy, yellow dandelions any day. Some people have trouble getting anything green to grow in their soil, so when weeds pop up, they rejoice and give the pretty little thing a nice, long drink of water and hope it invites a few friends over too.

I just mow then I don't care if there weed or grass just as long as there green, I don't fuss with the lawns I've got flower bed to weed and roses to fuss over. so the lawn becomes just a place for the dog to play.

I'm with those who don't call them "weeds" when they're part of my lawn...l just keep it mowed. All green, all good. :) At the back and edges l let them go nuts, much of what are "weeds" have pretty flowers and interesting leaves.

In the veg garden and around the perennial beds l pull by hand, but mulch helps keep them to a dull roar.

I just mow them all down when I am cutting grass. Of course, I swear I have more weeds than grass anyway! I am not much of a lawn person. I am not sure why I bought this place with all of this grass. I didn't need it. I guess I thought it was cool at the time!

I would hate to use the weed killer on my grass. It generally will effect the grass, but there's really no way around it. What we ended up doing was pulling the weeds and using some sort of killer so that the weed will not come back. Our grass was a bit spotty for a while, but it went away over time. I'm happy to say that my lawn has absolutely no weeds nowadays. I just had to break through that terrible moment of having a spotty lawn. Pulling up some of the weeds can prove difficult as well, since they are so deep rooted into the ground.
