Welcome to September Photo of the Month! The theme this month is Water Features.

The rules are as follows:

• Please submit your photo in this topic
• No more than one submission per member
• The photo must be your own (but not necessarily your own garden)
• Entries should be made no later than 20th August
• A poll will be released on 21st August to select the winning photo, and voting will take place until the end of the month
• No discussion in this topic - you will have a chance to comment on the photos when the poll has been released
• The winning photo will be announced on 1st September and the winning photo will be shown on the sidebar during the whole of September.

What a great idea!
I'd like to start with our "water feature" --our one acre pond where we have fish, turtles, snakes, and waterfowl. When we moved here we removed about 20 tires from the pond, cleaned out the "escape" drain, and planted a few water-loving trees (willows, cypress). So far it has paid off, since we have waterfowl that linger here, others that stop on migration, and we hear frogs and peepers at night. We keep paths mowed to the pond and around it, so that we can stroll down with a cup of coffee in the morning and see what is going on. We have friends who come to fish our pond--bass, perch, and catfish. We have logs on the shore for the turtles to sun, a couple of drowned Christmas trees for fingerling fish to hide in, and grasses for the small mammals, like raccoons and bobcats, to feel comfortable coming to get a drink. We dearly love our pond, and all that live in it and use it!
